How To Remove Yourself From Group Texts On iOS and Android
June 16, 2020
Being stuck in an unwanted group text can really be annoying. But it doesn’t have to be terrible getting out of one. If you’re using iOS (an Apple device) you’ll want to open up the Messages app and select the Group message you’d like to leave. Hit the “info” button at the top of the screen (the letter “i” in a circle) and which will give you the option to “Hide Alerts” or “Leave Conversation”—click the latter to be removed. If that option is gray, it means someone in the group text doesn’t have iMessage on or isn’t running the latest version of iOS. In that case just delete the message, or mute notifications by enabling “Hide Alerts.” On Android, you’ll need to delete the group message in order to get out of it. Unfortunately, this won’t technically remove you from the conversation and messages will still continue to come through. If there’s just one major offender in the group text, you might want to just block that particular person, but otherwise you should have multiple options for muting the conversation, or at least stopping the notifications every time someone says something.
