A Virginia woman is spreading kindness, one yard sale at a time. Every year Susan Thompson Gaines holds a two-day “kindness sale” at her Arlington home and she uses the profits to pay for random acts of kindness in her community.
Friends and neighbors donate items to be sold and Thompson-Gaines uses every penny made to pay it forward. This was the third year for the sale and it raised $12-thousand! And she uses the money for things like buying donuts for nurses, leaving flowers at veterans’ graves and buying a homecoming dress for a teenage girl in need.
“Once you start looking, there are opportunities everywhere,” Thompson-Gaines says of the acts of kindness, adding, “It has made me, overall, a more happy person.”
