They call Disney the Happiest Place on Earth, but during the holidays, the magic multiplies, making it even more amazing. There’s so much going on, on top of all the regular sites to see and experience, it’s easy to miss some of the hidden gems the parks and hotels have to offer this time of year, so here’s a guide to doing Disney during the holidays.
The candlelight processional at Epcot - This tradition happens each night in December and every night a different celebrity narrator reads the nativity story backed by a 50-piece orchestra and a holiday choir. They have three shows a night and some of this year’s famous faces involved include Neil Patrick Harris, Chandra Wilson, and Whoopi Goldberg.
It’s A Small World Holiday at Disneyland Resort - This special edition of the classic ride is open from November to January and it includes traditional holiday songs along with the ride’s usual tune. The holiday version of It’s A Small World features a North Pole room, a 14-foot snowman, and kids from around the world wearing traditional holiday costumes. If you’re in Cali and want to see it, get a FastPass to avoid the long line here.
Life-size Lilo and Stitch Christmas Carousel at Disney Beach Club Resort at Disney World - This is the 18th year the Florida hotel has created its life-size gingerbread Christmas carousel and this year’s theme is Lilo and Stitch. They work on this display for about half the year to get it ready and spend 12 to 14 hours a day putting it up.
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom at Disney World - This is a special party held on certain nights in December and it requires a separate ticket to see events like the Once Upon a Christmastime parade and Holiday Wishes fireworks. They even make it snow on Main Street, which is really impressive in Orlando!
Desserts at Disney Springs at Disney World - Amorette’s Patisserie is known for their mini-dome cakes and during the holidays they make a special Santa Mickey version and an ornament one, too. While you’re shopping at Disney Springs, check out the Gingerbread S’mores at The Ganachery, which feature a special cinnamon ganache, Disney’s custom dark chocolate blend, and a powdered sugar Mickey on top.
