UNIFIED POLICE BELIEVE THEY'VE SOLVED A 23-YEAR-OLD MURDER CASE... IDENTIFYING AN ARIZONA DEATH ROW INMATE AS THEIR SUSPECT.

IN FEBRUARY 1991, LUCILLE JOHNSON, 78, WAS FOUND DEAD -- IN HER HOLLADAY HOME -- THE VICTIM OF BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA AND STRANGULATION.

SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, UNIFIED POLICE BEGAN TO RE-INVESTIGATE THE COLD CASE... AND A D-N-A MATCH WAS MADE, TO SKIN, UNDER THE VICTIM'S FINGERNAILS.

JOHN SANSING, 47, IS NOW SUSPECTED IN THE CRIME. HE'S CURRENTLY IMPRISONED FOR A 1998 ARIZONA MURDER.

POLICE SAY, THE SUSPECT'S WIFE HAS ALSO TOLD THEM, HER HUSBAND CONFESSED TO HER -- 23 YEARS AGO -- THAT HE HAD KILLED AN ELDERLY HOLLADAY WOMAN.

THERE'S NO WORD YET, ON WHETHER SHE WILL ALSO FACE CRIMINAL CHARGES.
