Recent Rainfall Hasn't Helped Southern Utah Drought Much

Posted August 7th, 2014 @ 11:44am by Talk Radio 105.7 FM / 570 AM

YOU'VE LIKELY SEEN THE PICTURES OF SOUTHERN UTAH FLOODING THIS WEEK -- OR HEARD ABOUT THE FAMILY OF 13, THAT HAD TO BE RESCUED NEAR A RAGING RIVER.

BUT DESPITE ALL THE RECENT RAINS, THE WASHINGTON COUNTY WATER CONSERVANCY DISTRICT SAYS, THE WATER'S NOT GETTING TO RESERVOIRS, WHERE IT'S NEEDED.

DISTRICT G-M RON THOMPSON SAYS, SOUTHERN UTAH SEASONAL PRECIPITATION IS STILL JUST 61 PERCENT OF NORMAL... AND VIRGIN RIVER WATER AVAILABILITY IS ONLY 19 PERCENT OF NORMAL.

SOUTHERN UTAH WATER OFFICIALS SAY, THEY NEED A STRONG WINTER SEASON... NOT A FLASH OF HEAVY RAIN, FOR JUST A FEW DAYS.
